I help passionate & purposeful writers & creatives develop & grow their online platforms.

I know that many writers and many creatives have mixed emotions when it comes to publication day or launch day.  On the one hand their work is out there in the world. Woohoo. It's a dream come true. On the other, yikes. It's now time to start selling.

And it's the latter that makes their stomach flip with anxiety.

They fear they'll annoy their followers on social media, or they don't know how to use the various social media apps efficiently and successfully. Or they might not have any audience at all.

Then there is their next book to write. Or next product to make. Who has the time?

I believe that there is another way. A better way than spamming people with 'buy my book' or 'buy my product' messages on twitter.

It involves building an engaging and consistent platform. It involves developing trust between the writer and the audience. And it involves attracting the right audience who are as excited by what you create as you are.

And that's exactly why I created this website.

More about Helen

I've spent ten years writing blog posts and hoping people never read them.

That's right. An entire decade.

I wanted success. I wanted a book deal. But I was also fearful of it.

So I kept myself and my writing hidden.

Then I started writing about food in novels for a book and writing website. And I was spotted by an agent. We worked on a recipe book proposal together, only for it to be turned down by publishers. Why? Because my platform wasn't big enough.

At the end of 2015 I made a decision. I was no longer going to hide under the table. I was going to get out there and build a platform. An audience of people who enjoyed what I wrote.

Since then I've made a concerted effort to build up my Instagram. I've learnt how to take better photographs. I can now create videos on iMovie and upload to YouTube. I'm learning how Pinterest can drive traffic to my blog but, above all, I've honed what I really want to write about. And I've found an audience for it.

You can find my writing, photography, baking and chickens over on A Bookish Baker
